All About The Montessori School of Northampton

Check out the Montessori School of Northampton if you're in Massachusettes and you're considering sending your child to a Montessori school. This fantastic school is based on the teachings and educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, Italy's first female doctor. Dr. Montessori believed that children were born with extraordinary creative potential just waiting to blossom. After working with special needs children, she wondered if some of the techniques that were so effective on them could be applied to children without special needs.

** Children's Education Tip ** On Children's Learning Problems... What are some common children’s learning disabilities? The common ones are reading and language skills. These disabilities cannot be cured or outgrown by the child. However, the child can be trained to overcome them.

One feature of the Montessori method of teaching involves grouping children into three year age groups. The rationale being the children will naturally teach each other and learn from each other. This give and take process creates nurturing, helpful children that understand the value of teamwork and community.

The Montessori School of Northampton's elementary program accepts children from six years of age to twelve years of age. The school day runs from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. However the school itself is open from 7:30 am to 5:00 p.m. and offers before and after school care.

The curriculum for the elementary program include literacy, language, zoology, botany, math, geography, art, and special activities such as research programs and field trips. At the Montessori School of Northampton, your child is surrounded by a nurturing environment where he or she can learn at his or her own pace.
